Bernice L. (Reck) Nagy

Nov. 13, 1931 – Jan 11, 2022

KENOSHA – Bernice L. (Reck) Nagy, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

Born on November 13, 1931 in Wauwatosa, WI to Louisa (Reck) Prickett, raised by Karl and Paulina Reck. She was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School and received her teaching degree at the Racine-Kenosha Teacher’s College in Union Grove. She also completed additional courses at UW Extension and Carthage College.

On July 28, 1973, she was united in marriage to George Nagy at Bethany Lutheran Church. For over 40 years, they built a beautiful marriage, but sadly, George passed away in 2014. Years later, she found love again with her significant other, Gordon Holmes, who was by her side and cared for her until her passing.

In 1972, Bernice was the first woman elected to the Kenosha Police and Fire Commission. She was also a Librarian for the Kenosha County News reporters for 28 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of New Life Lutheran Church; enjoyed traveling all over the U.S., as well as to many countries, including New Zealand, Australia, Hungary, Europe, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. Bernice and George were snow birds for 5 1/2 months a year in Florida. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed discussing the games with her godson, JT Fiers. She was a member of the Kenosha Senior Center and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed bowling on many leagues throughout the years, holding many offices in the leagues at Sheridan Lanes. She enjoyed fishing trips, reading, and staying in touch with family and friends.

Bernice will be missed by her significant other, Gordon Holmes; her Godson, JT Fiers; her sisters, Nancy Arezina of Kenosha, Millie Jordan of Libertyville, and Gladys Prickett of Gurnee; her brother, Gene Prickett of Kenosha, and many other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George; her sisters, Kathleen and Mary Lou Prickett, Alice Smalley; her brothers, Jerry, Kenneth, Jr., Charles, and Melvin Prickett.

Funeral services honoring Bernice’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at New Life Central (formerly Mt. Zion Lutheran Church), 5927 37th Avenue. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery. A visitation for Bernice will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
